A Prophet Passes

I just learned a few minutes ago about President Hinckley's passing. On one hand, I feel so happy that he is once again with his dear, sweet wife who is one of my life heroes. They were just so cute together in this life and I know how happy they must be to be together again now. On the other hand, I couldn't feel any sadder to lose my prophet. He's been the president of the Church since I was 13 or 14. He's influenced me so much and I love him so dearly. His sense of humor could put anyone at ease. I know he was truley the right person to be prophet for these past years. I am so grateful to have a knowledge of the afterlife and to know where he is now.

He will be greatly missed.

The Sweetness That Is Matty

Matty is such a funny kid. I just wanted to share a few funny or sweet things he does regularly that make us smile. There's a million, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
1. Quotes the TV. Of course, we have to make sure what we're watching is appropriate for him to be quoting. But if you think Bill Cosby is funny, try Matty immitating Bill Cosby! :)
2. Hugs on the toilet. He, for some odd reason, loves to give me hugs when I'm trying to go to the bathroom. Annoying but cute.
3. Holding hands. He loves to hold our hands when we're sitting on the couch watching TV together. So sweet!
4. Tells me I'm his best friend. I don't even know where he learned the term "best friends," but it's so sweet he randomly tells me this. The other day, though, he said it in an attempt to get out of trouble and we had to just try not to laugh at his attempt at manipulation.
5. The way he runs. I wish I could show everyone what I mean, but when he's really happy or excited he has the funniest little run/prance/hopping move I've ever seen.
6. "No, no, no Dawn!" We taught him that if his Aunt Dawn is ever teaching him something he shouldn't be doing, he's to tell her this. It's so hilarious to watch him correct his aunt! (In her defense, she doesn't teach him anything really bad.)
7. His reaction when I cry. He'll come over and say, "Are you crying Mommy?" When I say yes, he responds with a sad face, hugs, and says, "Oh, I sorry. . .(long pause). . .Are you done now?" He just wants to get back to playing.
8. "Super Readers. . .to the rescue!" He loves watching Super Why and just has to come find us when they say this phrase so that he can put his hand on ours and say it like them. . . EVERY TIME!
9. He wants to go to the temple with us. He has always wanted to go when we do, but it's gotton worse since we took him to the Rexburg Temple open house. He loved walking inside it and now thinks he can go to all the temples. I wish he could go with us.
10. "Hi Jesus!" When at a place with a picture of Jesus, he yells this. It's so cute! He asks us where Jesus is at church because we told him it was Jesus' house. How do you explain that to a 2-year-old?

Sleepless Nights

I'm so jealous of people who can go to sleep when they lay down and then stay asleep through the night.

One of the most frustrating things is wanting to sleep but not being able to! I've always had a problem sleeping and usually go about an hour or two, then wake up, and go to sleep again within 10 minutes. However, last night I only got to sleep about 30-45 minutes at a time!! Then it would take me another 30 minutes to fall back asleep. So annoying!!! And I dream all night long so I feel like I'm getting almost no sleep at all. ARG!! I remember when I had my son how worried I was about getting up every 2-3 hours at night to feed him because I was so afraid I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. But the hormone released from breastfeeding mixed with pure exhaustion made it pretty easy to go back to bed most nights. I can't believe after last night I'm actually looking forward to getting up all night to feed a baby!

Nap Time: Blessing and Curse

I love nap time. The house gets quiet and I get on average 90 minutes to do as I please (which usually means napping myself). I spend my mornings counting down the minutes until the glorious hour of peace. But there are days (like today) when I wish I didn't have to bother with it. We were out shopping and tried to push past the normal time for Matty's nap. Sometimes it works and it's no big deal. But other times it results in a complete meltdown on his part. It's then that I remember that pushing back nap time is usually not worth the high cost of an overtired toddler.

Some people think it's crazy to have your child's sleep schedule dictate your day, but 99% of the time I really perfer a happy, well-rested child over one who've I've forced to follow my plans for the day.

Is it Spring yet???

I don't think I've ever looked forward to spring so much. I love how beautiful the snow is, but I am so ready for warmer weather! I want to be able to get my kid outside where he can burn off some of his endless supply of energy. Plus, in the spring I'll be a lot closer to having this baby. This pregnancy is so much harder than my first and I'm so ready to be DONE! I know that's not good because I'm only halfway. But really, I already ache all the time and have Braxton-Hicks at least a few times a day. There are other not-so-fun side effects, but I'll spare the details. Here's a picture of me this past week at 20 weeks and one at 15, just to show how much things have changed in the last month:

Big Ultrasound!

We were so excited for our big ultrasound today! Most importantly, everything looks good and healthy. We told the tech we thought it was a girl and if she said it was a boy, she was going to see two very shocked parents. When she got a clear view of it's parts, she said our intuition is right. . .it's a girl!! We're so excited! She was so cute on the video waving at us and wiggling around. Really, I know it's just black and white blurry pictures, but we could totally tell this is one beautiful baby. :) Here are a few highlights:

Giving In

For some reason, I like to avoid doing what everyone else is for as long as possible. It took me years to give in and read the Harry Potter books and almost a year to read the Twilight series. Blogging was no exception. However, I've loved reading my friends blogs and have even found some old friends I thought I had lost touch with. I hate that I can see what they're doing, but there is no way to keep everyone up on our lives. I feel like a stalker! So I'm giving in and starting a blog.
