Treats

I'm learning to be okay with FHE treats.

We use to never have them mostly because we didn't need more sugar in this house and because I didn't want to take the time to make anything.  But now, I can see that it's a nice thing for the child who's turn it is to get to pick something for us to have and to spend some 1-on-1 time with Mom making it.  I think I've mentioned a zillion times on this blog before, but I would rather cook without "helpers."  But I can see that they're learning about measuring, counting, mixing, etc. and I know they need the experience even if it's just something simple.

So FHE treats have become a little more sweet in this house . . . and not just because of the sugar.

Summer in March

My kids are having issues this year figuring out what season it is.  Lacey especially has been begging for me to get out the sprinkler, pool, or slip n slide for weeks.  It's still a little too cold most days, but she finally wore me down one Saturday.

Sure, they were cold.  But that didn't stop them from having fun.  Plus, our neighborhood thankfully has other kids as crazy and confused as my own, so they weren't alone.

Good thing Lacey was prepared with her water wings.  We wouldn't want her to drown in the 1 inch deep puddle at the bottom of the slide.  *eye roll*

The dryer.

It snowed a few days after this.
That's Utah for you.

Suds and Snuggles

A Moment

I'm not the best mom . . . nor do I need to be.  I'm trying to learn that.  I complain a fair amount about my stinkers and about all the work to be done as a homemaker.  It's overwhelming, exhausting, and not always the thing I want to be doing.  But one thing I AM good at is noticing moments.  You know, the tiny bits of joy in a day that make everything else a little more bearable.

I was having one of those pity-party kind of days folding laundry recently.  (Oh the laundry!   I vaguely remember when it was just Dan and I.  I could do just two loads every week or stretch it even further if need be.  Not so with my crew now.)  Anyway, as I was folding laundry I watched as Alice got distracted from her job of "helping" me and instead kept trying to put on a pair of panties that belonged her big sis.   She was so cute to watch struggling, so I grabbed the camera nearby.

As I kept folding I watched her get into all sorts of things she shouldn't and make messes I'd have to clean up later.

And climb into places I needed to be using.

The laundry is never-ending.  The job I do daily is freakin' hard and I'm not always excited about it.  But dang, watching this cute toddler made the chore a little more enjoyable that day.
